The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
